VISITORS ROUND 1!!

On Sunday, our MN college spring breakers left us after a week visit in St. Maarten. We had such a blast hosting my brother Jared, my cousin Erin, Mike's brother Alex, & his friend Jarid! And yes, if you are counting right we had 4 houseguests in our 1 bedroom apartment!! Needless to say it was a tight fit with 1 sleeping on the couch, 2 sleeping on a queen air mattress, & 1 sleeping on a single air mattress but we managed :)

We had a GREAT week of warm weather & fun but when they all arrived last Sunday it appeared that their vacation was not off to a good start. First of all, right before they flew in the power & water were out in our apartment all day and the weather was cool and rainy, which NEVER happens! And then, when we went to pick them up from the airport only 3 people stepped off the plane instead of 4! It turns out the flight was overbooked so Jared got bumped in Atlanta and had to spend the night there all by himself and fly down the next day...poor guy! BUT, then next day Jared flew in and the weather cleared up for the rest of the week and it was GORGEOUS & sunny for the rest of the week!

Here are some of the highlights of the week:

On Monday, I had my 3 exams so I was busy all morning & Mike took the 3 that had arrived to the beach even though it was still a little cool & rainy. After my exams, I went and picked Jared up from the airport and we met the others at the beach and everyone tried skim boarding...and they actually weren't bad! That evening it was still kindof bad weather so we went to a nearby bar & grill on the lagoon and got dinner and then some of us went down to the casino and played penny slots and drank free beer...everyone came out on top and I actually won $15!

Tuesday was St. Patty's Day so we had big plans :) In the morning the visitors went to nearby Mullet Bay while I was in class & Mike worked. In the afternoon, I took them to Bay Rouge on the French side and they really enjoyed seeing a different beach. That night we went to a really nice restaurant right on the lagoon for $0.50 wings & beers...everyone thought they were delicious except for Erin who claimed herself a "vegitarian" after having them....although she promptly broke her vegitinarianism within 24 hours :) After dinner we went to a local bar called Soggy Dollar which was on the water with the big yachts parked right there! We were all decked out in green for St. Patty's & had a blast!

On Wednesday the group went to Mullet Bay again and then went to a happy hour at a nearby bar on the lagoon & we took it easy that night and stayed in and had tacos & beer after our wild St. Patty's Day! Thursday was another beach day....Mike & I didn't join them b/c of work & class but after hearing their account of their beach day I would say that the hightlight of the day for them was the giant hole they built at the beach and the pyramid of beer bottles they made :) That night we got pizza & watched the opening rounds of March Madness at the casino and enjoyed more penny slots & free beer :) ....too bad MN lost!!

Friday, we went on an all day catamaran cruise around the island. It was so much fun! We stopped at the island of Tintamare, snorkeled at Creloe Rock, had lunch in Grand Case, & went swimming at Long Bay. It was a great day and we had perfect weather! After a full day on the boat full of sun and free rum punch & beer we were pretty wiped out when we got home! :)

Saturday was the last full day for the spring breakers so we rented an additional car so that we could drive around the entire island. We got breakfast in the morning at Mike & my's favorite french restarant on the water. We then proceeded to our favorite spot on the island where there are windsurfers and amazing views (we will probably bring every visitor to this spot!). We then proceeded to Orient Bay and the boys enjoyed body surfing and also checked out the "European" style (aka nude side of the beach)...haha! After a great day exploring the island we had a quick dinner and then headed out to a casino in Pelican Key where we played Bingo to start the night! I know, it sounds corny but it is so fun! You get 12 games for $7 and free drinks while you play. I think the visitors were a little skeptical about how COOL bingo is at first but then our group got on a win streak....out of the 12 games we won 3 of them (Alex won $75, I won $300, & Erin won $500!)....needless to say everyone there hated our group b/c we were so lucky :) After bingo we went to a beach bar where we got to play bags on the beach and hang out. After that we went to another bar that is a favorite of Mike & Micah & Katie's but I had yet to go so I was excited as well! It was really neat b/c it was literally a floating bar (a boat) attached to a solid ground bar...so cool! Overall, it was a great night!

Yesterday we had a little beach time and then said goodbye to our visitors :( We were very sad to see them go b/c we had such a wonderful time with them but Mike & I both definitely crashed after they left due to the BUSY and FUN week we had had with them!

Now I am trying to get a lot of studying in and Mike is working the next few days until our next round of visitors (Joelle & Dane & the Cressman's) come to visit on Thursday!

Wow, how lucky are we to have so many people come to visit....VERY LUCKY :)

Miss you all!!

Carly & Mike
